In my 40 something years in "the truth" I never saw this type of person join. Funny I was thinking something similar this morning. How the org emphasizes the need to look for people who are down and out. They do this constantly by saying things such as "maybe a person's circumstances have changed and they're not doing well at the moment" or something to that effect. They do this because they realize people who are well off have no need to listen to the nonsense.

When is the last time you saw an educated middle class family become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by xjwsrock inwe know from casual observation that if anybody does respond to their preaching/recruiting work it is usually someone that is a social misfit in some way or a person that was indoctrinated early in life.. think about all the nicer neighborhoods witnesses preach in.
if a family of four with a father that is an engineer and a mother who is a medical professional ever walked into a kingdom hall for the first time and said they were studying, people would faint.
lol.... this of course isn't what you would expect from a religion backed by the ultimate intelligent creator.

Chapter 33 New Boy 50 years a Watchtower slave
by new boy inchapter 33. starving outside the load’s house.
there is no fanfare when you leave bethel.
they didn’t care about you while you were there so why would the care about you now you are leaving.

I have a few friends who are ex-bethelites and never has one said how good it was to be in bethel. Maybe they've all been reminded the same thing as you when they left, "Or if you can't say anything good about the place, please just don’t say anything at all."

Is this a World Wide Pattern?
by Slidin Fast inhundreds baptized at jehovah's witness convention.
at first sight this afican rc looks as though it's acheiving the quantity of baptisms of another era.
348 is a substantilal number and impressive until you see the sunday attendance 28,300. so a baptism rate of 1.2%, in africa.

I gave a baptism talk about 3 years ago in a Spanish circuit assembly on the West coast of the USA. Attendance was about 900 and 2 got baptized that day. So I would say yes it's definitely a trend, especially if it's now happening in the Spanish field also.

This elder he was just following the rules and guidelines set forth by the org. If it was me and I was still not awake my WT trained conscience would've made me do the same thing. Unfortunately for Jane, she saw in action the power the org has in controlling what it's members do.

New light!.....DFed without being DFed
by Tight Pants Twinkle Toes init now appears that the wt can df you just by marking you.
this happened to my me and my wife a few week ago.
a marking talk was given at the mid-week meeting in which no names were mentioned yet a detailed description of the "offending bastards" was delivered so that there as no doubt who this "pond scum" might be.

Did they actually use "offending bastards" and "pond scum" in the marking talk?

Disfellowshipped in Absentia
by HereIgo ini have heard of this happening before, but how often?
its pretty rare it seems.
i have often wondered if the elders would go this route with me since they knew i was actively sinning, but as far as i know, no jc was ever formed.

It all depends on how "zealous" the elders in your hall are whether they go after you or not. I was on elder bodies that didn't do that. They just let it be. In other elder bodies there would be an elder or two who wanted to make sure to keep "Jehovah's Organization" clean and wouldn't stop going after the faded person for years. Always trying to catch them doing something "wrong".

Personal Update: 3 Months Out
by Saethydd ini've been mentally free of the watchtower for nine months now, three months ago i moved out of my parent's house and gave up any pretexts of being reinstated.
in that time i've faced difficulties adjusting to my new life such as the new responsibilities i have in caring for my own needs, the loneliness that sometimes strikes when i miss my family, and the occasionally unshakable feeling of guilt over the way things are with them.. in that time, i've faced difficulties adjusting to my new life such as the new responsibilities i have in caring for my own needs, the loneliness that sometimes strikes when i miss my family, and the occasionally unshakable feeling of guilt over the way things are with them.. overall though, i feel better about my life now.
i make an effort to really help people where i can by doing more than "praying for them" or "sharing a scripture.

It sure isn't easy when your family wants nothing to do with you. That's what the cult does to people. Keep doing what you're doing making friends and expanding your horizons. You will be alot better and happier for it.
